Paper Rater : Using Grammar Sites to Improve Your Writing

There are free websites you can have students "put their writing into" and have their writing analyzed.  If you share websites like this one with students and ask them to use them prior to handing in their writing, it should improve their writing and make it easier for you to read their writing.

Using Paper Rater, you simply a copy and paste the writing into the text box, follow the prompts (grade level, type of writing, agree to the terms), and it will analyze the paper.  Very cool!

It checks for the items listed below.  It will also give the student a suggested grade, based on grammar (not content).  It will make suggestions to the student as to how they can improve word choice and style.  Encouraging students to look at their work critically before turning work in, is a skill they will benefit from.
